Round 12 Sun. July 11 v Sandringham

Round 13 Sat. July 17 v Northern Bullants

Round 18 Sun. August 12 v Casey Scorpions.

Other points

The Tigers play North Ballarat, Williamstown, Gold Coast, Sandringham & Casey Scorpions twice (Three of whom made finals last year)

Senior Coach Simon Atkins had this to say about the draw

“I think the Gold Coast coming in gives the competition a new dimension and the bye is gone. When you are winning you don’t want a bye when you are losing you do, that’s footy. It will be good to see maybe Nathan Ablett and Karmichael Hunt running around under lights at Chirnside Park in our first home game for the new team and their first Melbourne game. That’s bit of history for our club. We can’t wait to show everyone the fruits of our hard work from our pre-season and the planning we have been doing over a number of years to build this footy team with exciting young footballers. We will be ready to go, no excuses.”

Our practice matches for this year have been confirmed:
Saturday 27th February - Intraclub @ Benalla

Saturday 13th March - vs North Ballarat @ North Ballarat

Saturday 27th March - vs Port Melb @ Port Melb

Thursday 1st April ( Easter Thursday ) vs Box Hill @ Werribee

I will not be attending the intraclub due to attending the Rhythm and Vines Festival in the Yarra Valley, but should be attending the three other matches listed above.

Anyone going to get along to have a look?

There will probably be a handful of North Melbourne listed guys running around for us in these games, in particular those returning from injury or first-year players etc.

Just had Mark Stone answer my SMS on SEN regarding the player alignments as it's something that people have been asking me about for a while and have felt bad not being able to give them a definitive answer.

Which North Melbourne players are aligned to Werribee and North Ballarat respectively will not be determined until after the first NAB Cup game.

We essentially had all the players who were aligned to Tasmania under the old partial alignment mixed with a few draftees, but this has obviously changed due to an increased number of draftees.

Once the alignments are announced, I will post them up either in this thread or a special thread specifically for such discussion.

After not having a naming rights sponsor for ground since Bartercard departed about a year or so ago, we have finally found one.

The ground will now be know as Avalon Airport Oval at Chirnside Park.

From Werribeefc.com.au
WELCOME TO AVALON AIRPORT OVAL @ CHIRNSIDE PARK
The oval at Chirnside Park will be renamed Avalon Airport Oval in a major sponsorship deal between the airport and VFL club Werribee.

Announcing the partnership today, Werribee Football Club President John Nicol said the deal was initially for three years but both parties see a long term relationship developing.

“The naming of our home ground is something we don’t take lightly so we wanted a corporate partner with a long term future, strong history and values and a name that would be synonymous with the west but be known far and wide. We certainly have achieved that,” he said.

Avalon Airport Chief Executive Justin Giddings said the Werribee Tigers were an ideal fit for the airport. “The Western part of Melbourne is very much a focus for us moving forward. Our research is telling us that more and more people from the western suburbs are choosing to fly from Avalon and we wanted to support that growth by supporting a well-known local organisation. Werribee is a successful club with a proud history and we are looking forward to working with them.’’

Both the club and Avalon Airport reiterated that the Chirnside Park name would remain. The oval will be known as Avalon Airport Oval at Chirnside Park. “Avalon Airport has been around since 1952 but we understand the affinity the community here has with the Chirnside family who were 19th century pioneers in the area. We don’t want to change that. Our real intent is to support the local community whilst reminding the people of Werribee that Australia’s first dedicated low cost airport is just down the road,’’ Mr Giddings said.

Avalon Airport is the major employer along the Melbourne-Geelong corridor with more than 1,200 people working there across a variety of airport and aviation services. Avalon Airport’s data indicates around 20% of employees reside in the Werribee, Hoppers Crossing and Point Cook areas.

Since 2004, nearly 5 million passengers have travelled through Avalon Airport generating hundreds of millions of dollars in new economic activity for Victoria
